5 Steps to Organising a Pirate Treasure Hunt for Kids

Treasure hunts are often a terrific, fun, yet straightforward way to keep your kids very entertained. If you are thinking of a fun costume party or simply a way to entertain the kids on an ordinary day, a treasure hunt is one of the greatest ways to go!

Treasure Map

Like real pirates, youngsters would really like to follow a realistic treasure map. This is pretty straightforward to pull off by using a used tea bag, and a chunk of paper.
Tear the sides of the paper in order to cause it to appear old and worn and draw your map on it. Utilize different marks like a tree, dinner table, TV, and so on. Next, wet the used tea bag and wipe every side of your paper until it turns light brown. Crumple it into a ball to give it that tattered look as you let it dry for a few hours or over night.

Picture Hints

Children love and find it easy to follow picture clues. This is an alternative or adjunct to the treasure map above. Take some pictures of different areas around your living space and yard then have them printed. Hide picture hints at each one of these locations. At the treasure hunt’s start, present the 1st picture to the birthday celebrant or a team captain. Make the last picture a little more difficult by zooming in on a certain object or part of that item like a bicycle’s beam or spokes of its wheels.

Written Hints

Treasure hunt games with written clues are best for older kids. The easiest means of making a treasure hunt with the use of written hints is by starting at the last part. Decide on where the treasure shall be concealed before planning the route. The quantity of clues which you give will determine the treasure hunt’s length. If you would like the kids to be able to finish fast, then give them about 4 to 5 clues. If you’d like them to be entertained for a longer time, then create more hints or make the routes longer.

You can make the treasure search more thrilling by employing riddles as clues. A fascinating riddle hint to follow might be: “A box without hinges, key, or lid, yet golden treasure within is hid”. Follow this hint with an easier clue if they cannot solve it the first time with more straightforward ones like “Don’t put your _ _ _ _ in one basket.” Then the following key or clue would be found concealed beside or inside a bowl of eggs on the table.

Costumes

To give the treasure hunt that pirate spirit, do not forget pirate costumes! Don the children in flouncy shirts with puff sleeves or the typical black and white pirate stripes and throw in some bandanna or Jolly Roger Cap for extra effect! These costumes and accessories can also be readily found in thrift shops. Alternatively, check out some children’s costume stores on the web.

Pirate Language

For some added fun, use some pirate language while the party/treasure hunt is on. There are plenty of comprehensive resources on the web to help how to talk like a pirate.
